Group Overview

Routeco is an independent privately owned company. The company was formed in 1978 and has successfully established itself as one of the UK`s leading distributors of industrial automation and control products. Over an impressive period of sustained and continuous growth, Routeco have secured a nation-wide network of sales locations employing over 200 personnel. The company has expanded by focusing on providing customers with the very best choice of products from leading manufacturers from around the world. Packaged together with a range of added value services Routeco are ideally positioned to face all new challenges well into the next millennium.

Company Milestones

Routeco Ltd. was formed in 1978 as a multi-franchise industrial electrical distributor based in Milton Keynes. In 1981 the company was awarded the Allen-Bradley franchise for Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.

In 1990 Routeco Ltd. became Routeco plc and the first sales location outside of Milton Keynes was established in Peterborough. 1991 saw further growth within the organisation and subsequently the third location was opened in Coventry. In 1992 Routeco plc and Allen-Bradley agreed a unique deal which provided both companies with exclusivity within agreed geographical areas.

Three sales outlets were opened in 1992, in Southampton, Bristol and East London. The success of Routeco plc strategy to develop the company by organic means saw further branches opening in Derby in 1993, Dudley in 1994 and West London in 1995. The opportunity to establish Routeco plc in South Wales was fulfilled by the acquisition of Control Gear (Electrical) Limited in Swansea in 1996.

The position in South Wales was further strengthened in the same year by also opening in Cardiff. 1997 Routeco opened in Stoke, Ipswich, Runcorn and Manchester. Further expansion into the north of England in 1998 saw new outlets opening in Accrington and Leeds, with an outlet in Peterlee opening at the beginning of 1999.

Since the start of the new millennium Routeco have opened new branches in Glasgow and Plymouth. They have also successfully launched Routeco Electrical Wholesale to support the current National Account Program. Routeco Information Technology was formed offering a range of IT services, bridging the gap between the factory floor and the commercial environment. supplyPARTNERSHIP, the integrated supply solution for customers wishing to purchase via e-Commerce was launched at the start of 2002 to complement the existing e-Purchasing solution already available on the Routeco website...
